November 2025 | 39 pany's evolution and its process of international affirmation. Today, it has 118 highly specialised employees and supplies products to four con- tinents, demonstrating the competitiveness of the national industry in this field. Its presence covers various industrial sectors, from accessories and components for low and medium voltage overhead lines in the electri- cal market to the production of components for the hydraulic, railway, naval, agricultural, opti- cal and aeronautical industries. The company also develops solutions associated with the sporting and hunting weapons sector, as well as applications for the defence sector. This industrial diversification has contributed to a robust structure and a significant position as a supplier of high-precision parts. The entry into the defence sector came about due to the experience accumulated in the man- ufacture of components for hydraulic systems. A major European customer challenged Prome- cel to produce one of these components for armoured vehicles and, from this first project, the company expanded its portfolio to include technologies and products geared towards land and naval systems. This segment has gained strategic relevance and is set to grow in the coming years. According to the company's forecasts, defence could represent between 10 and 12 per cent of total turnover by 2025 and is expected to become one of the main areas of activity in 2026, alongside the production of hydraulic components. Technological capability is one of the factors that sets Promecel apart in the competitive landscape. In the words of José Manuel Silva, General Manager of Promecel, “the main char- acteristic of the company is that it has various types of technologies that enable it to produce these complex components, which normally re- quire multiple technologies for their manufac- ture”. The integration of processes such as high- precision machining, stamping, and galvanic and anodising treatments creates value for custom- ers looking for a partner capable of supplying complete components, manufactured with con- trol over the entire production cycle. The complexity inherent in the defence sec- tor brings with it specific requirements and a need for specialisation. The manager himself explains that “the high complexity and use of special processes in the manufacture of components in the defence sector has been the biggest challenge Promecel has encoun- tered in establishing itself in the sector”. To meet these requirements, the company has invested in state-of-the-art equipment and established partnerships with other certified organisations, both domestic and foreign. In addition to this technological effort, the com- pany has obtained relevant certifications, such as the recent EN 9100, which reinforces its credentials in the aeronautical and de- fence supply chain. The company also holds ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications in qual- ity and environmental management systems and aims to obtain NADCAP certification for its special processes. Promecel's evolution is also based on col- laborative practice with the education and re- search system. The General Manager states that the company “maintain a proactive and innovative stance, collaborating closely with its partners, including leading academic in- stitutions”. Among the partner entities are the University of Minho, the University of Porto and the Polytechnic Institute of Cávado and Ave, contributing to the development of new manufacturing technologies and the optimi- sation of processes already implemented. This connection strengthens the capacity for innovation and monitoring of international in- dustrial trends. The recent investment in a new production line for the optical sector, worth 2.5 million euros, reinforces the company's industrial strategy and paves the way for high added- value products. This investment seeks to po- sition Promecel at the forefront of this type of system and create opportunities to enter new international markets, contributing to more robust financial indicators in the com- ing years.
