November 2025 | 27 level of technological maturity. Its most recent department — Design and Simulation of Multi- Engineering Systems — combines skills in UAV, BIM, CAD/CAM, computational simulation and high-performance computing, applied to au- tonomous operations and mission planning. Among the most relevant technological devel- opments by CCG/ZGDV Institute with impact on defence are: immersive driving simulators, widely applicable in military training, enabling the replication of various operational scenari- os, weather conditions and terrain configura- tions; computer vision and artificial intelligence systems for automatic threat detection and classification, aerial and ground surveillance, and assisted real-time video analysis; and lo- gistics digital twins, used for mission planning, resource optimisation, and predictive scenario simulation. Further developments include aug- mented and virtual reality environments for collaborative training and tactical modelling; generative AI tools for decision support in com- plex, dynamic contexts; adaptive interfaces for networked operations involving human and autonomous agents; and technologies for cy- bersecurity and resilience of critical infrastruc- tures, sensor network security, interoperability of command and control systems, and secure communications between aircraft and ground infrastructure. These dual-use, high-maturity technologies position CCG/ZGDV as a trusted technological partner for organisations oper- ating in defence, security and civil protection, including disaster response, border control and humanitarian assistance. The international dimension is central to CCG/ ZGDV’s mission. It leads the “Test before in- vest” work package in the European Digital In- novation Hub (EDIH) PRODUTECH, supporting more than 100 industrial companies. It is active in networks such as BDVA, ADRA and EFFRA and collaborates with institutions including DFKI, Fraunhofer HHI and VICOMTECH, ex- panding the European reach of its nationally developed solutions. Its performance recently earned CCG/ZGDV the BDVA i-Space gold label — the highest European distinction in the field of AI. In the defence domain, CCG/ ZGDV also plays an active role in the Capabil- ity Technology Groups (CapTechs) of the Eu- ropean Defence Agency (EDA). These groups play a crucial role in setting R&D priorities, identifying technology gaps, and promoting collaborative projects across Europe in the defence sector. CCG/ZGDV is also committed to talent de- velopment. Through its Tech Training Hub, it promotes training in AI, data science, robot- ics and computer vision, contributing to the transfer of knowledge — including to the de- fence sector. Alongside innovation, CCG/ZGDV champions an ethical, responsible and sustainable ap- proach to technology. In line with European regulations and the AI Act, it adopts practices that ensure data protection, algorithm trans- parency, and ethical project assessment. This stance is particularly relevant in sensitive do- mains such as defence, where trust and reli- ability are critical. More than developing technology, CCG/ZGDV Institute aims to lead with purpose. Its con- tribution to national technological sovereignty and global security positions it as a strategic and trusted partner for the defence sector, aligned with the European Union’s Defence Readiness Roadmap 2030.
